Depending on area of specialisation, the following are the admission requirements in the Institute of Maritime Studies:

  1. POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA (PGD)

(a) Maritime Business and International Logistics and Maritime Business Management:

(i) Graduates of the University of Nigeria or of other recognized Universities, with a minimum of third class honours degree and a minimum CGPA of 2.0 on a five-point scale.

(ii) Holders of the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Maritime Studies and related disciplines with not less than an Upper Credit pass. Candidates with HND should have obtained credit pass in 5 subjects including English Language and Mathematics in SSCE, NECO or GCE O/L in not more than two sittings.

(b) Maritime Regulation Studies, Law & Policy

(i) Graduates of the University of Nigeria or of other recognized Universities who have obtained the Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B), with a minimum of third class honours degree and a minimum CGPA of 2.0 on a five-point scale.

(ii) Graduates of the University of Nigeria or of other recognized Universities who have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in any relevant discipline with a minimum of Second Class honours and a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a five-point scale.

(iii) Holders of the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Maritime Studies and related disciplines with not less than an Upper Credit pass. Candidates with HND should have obtained credit pass in 5 subjects including English Language, English Literature and Mathematics in SSCE, NECO or GCE O/L in not more than two sittings.

 

(c) Maritime Telecommunications

(i) Graduates of the University of Nigeria or of other recognized Universities with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or Engineering Physics or Computer Science. Candidates must have at least a third class honours degree, with a minimum CGPA of 2.0 on a five- point scale.

(ii) Holders of the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Maritime Studies, Electrical or Electronic Engineering or Engineering Physics or Computer Science with not less than an Upper Credit pass.

(iii) In addition, all candidates must have obtained credit level pass in 5 subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in SSCE, NECO or GCE O/L in not more than two sittings.

 

  1. MASTER’S DEGREE (M.SC.) ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

(a) Maritime Business and International Logistics and Maritime Business Management:

(i) Graduates of the University of Nigeria or of other recognized Universities who have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Banking, Business Administration, Economics,

Finance, Insurance, Management and Marketing with a minimum of Second Class honours and a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a five-point scale.

(ii) Candidates with the Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Business and International Logistics or Maritime Business Management of the University of Nigeria or of any recognized Institution and with not less than an Upper Credit Pass.

 

(b) Maritime Regulation Studies, Law & Policy

(i) Graduates of the University of Nigeria or of other recognized Universities who have obtained the Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) with a minimum of Second Class honours and a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a five-point scale.

(ii) Candidates with the Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Regulation Studies, Law & Policy of the University of Nigeria or of any recognized Institution and with not less than an Upper Credit Pass.

 

(c) Maritime Telecommunications

(i) Graduates of the University of Nigeria or of other recognized Universities with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or Engineering Physics or Computer Science. Candidates must have at least a third class honours degree, with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a five- point scale.

(ii) Candidates with the Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Telecommunications of the University of Nigeria or of any recognized Institution and with not less than an Upper Credit Pass.
